MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team will play host to nationally-ranked Marshall on Friday, Feb. 2, in a 2 p.m., match at the Ridgeview Racquet Club, in Morgantown, W.Va.
Marshall is currently ranked No. 53 in the nation and has an overall regular season record of 5-1.
“We are looking forward to having our first official home match,” says coach Tina Samara. “We know Marshall has a great tennis program, so we are not expecting anything to come easy. I hope that the team goes out and competes at the level that I know they are capable of.”
WVU has an overall record of 1-4 and is 0-1 in BIG EAST action, after falling in last weekend’s matches against James Madison (1-6) on Saturday and Liberty (2-5) on Sunday.
Freshman Mary Chupa led the Mountaineers with two singles victories in the No. 4 spot, including capturing the only point in WVU’s match against the Dukes.
Junior Veronica Cardenas also captured a point last weekend against the Lady Flames in a 3-6, 6-4, 6-0, match in the No. 3 spot.
