MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The BIG EAST champion West Virginia women’s soccer team will take part in seven matches during the 2011 spring season, concluding with a May 1 contest against Ohio State.
“The spring season is a great time for our players to develop individually and improve on areas that will help in our team concept,” says coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “We have a good mix of teams to compete and try things against this spring, all in an effort to prepare us for the fall season.”
WVU’s spring begins with its annual 4-versus-4 tournament to raise funds for the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center. On March 6, teams will compete in the “Three’s a Team…the Fourth’s a Mountaineer” all-day event at the Caperton Indoor Facility. The tournament is open to boys and girls in grades three through eight, with an open division for college-age and older groups.
The Mountaineers take to the road for a pair of matches on March 19 in Richmond, Va. WVU will face host Richmond, along with regional foe Virginia.
West Virginia welcomes Virginia Tech in the first of three home contests at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. WVU and the Hokies will play a 90-minute match at 2 p.m.
Next up for the Mountaineers is a trip to Mount Pleasant, Mich., for a match against Central Michigan on April 9.
On April 16, WVU will play Tennessee and Ohio in the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center Soccer Invitational at Dick Dlesk. The Mountaineers and Lady Vols will kickoff at 12 p.m., followed by a 4 p.m. kickoff against the Bobcats.
The spring booking concludes with a home match versus Ohio State on May 1. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
