MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University volleyball coach Jill Kramer has announced the hiring of Kevin Dunn as assistant coach.
“I am very excited to announce Kevin Dunn as the newest addition to our volleyball staff at West Virginia University,” Kramer says. “I have known Kevin for quite a while, as we both spent time in our careers at Alabama under coach Judy Green. Kevin comes to WVU highly recommended by many people that I know and trust, and I am confident that he is exactly what our program needs moving forward into the 2011 season.”
Dunn comes to Morgantown after spending two seasons at Alabama, one as a full-time assistant last year, after being a volunteer for one year. His responsibilities with the Crimson Tide included working with the setters and assisting with scouting and film breakdown.
Prior to his stint at Alabama, Dunn spent one season as a graduate assistant at Southern Arkansas University. Under his direction, the Lady Muleriders won 11 matches and had two all-Gulf South Conference Western Division team selections.
Dunn began his coaching career as the junior varsity head coach and varsity assistant coach at Lindenwood University in Saint Charles, Mo. While at Lindenwood, he planned and executed conditioning routines and teambuilding exercises. Dunn's 2007 Lions squad finished with a fifth place NAIA national ranking.
Dunn also enjoyed a solid playing career at Lindenwood helping to lead the Lions to national rankings from 2003-07. In 2006, he guided Lindenwood to the NAIA National Championship Finals. Dunn was a four-time academic all-conference selection, graduating in 2008 with a bachelor of arts degree in history and business administration.
“I would really like to thank Jill and I am really excited about the opportunity,” Dunn says. “Everyone that I have met here has been really nice and it is going to be a lot of fun. I am excited to meet the girls and get to work. We have a lot of work to do this spring and Jill has a lot of goals about where she wants to take the program and I can’t wait to get started.”
“Kevin will definitely be seen on the recruiting trail from time to time, but his main responsibilities will be in the gym this spring,” says Kramer. “Ashley and I have a good feel for our team already and want to make sure Kevin has an opportunity to build the same types of relationships with the players that we have had the opportunity to develop.
“I think West Virginia University is as good of a fit for Kevin as he is for our program. The fan support and school spirit that surrounds WVU is very similar to the support that surrounds Alabama, so I know Kevin will immediately feel at home here.”
