MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia women’s soccer player Chelsey Corroto was named an Academic all-District first team selection, announced College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) officials.
“Chelsey is a perfect example of what it means to be a student-athlete,” says coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. “It is very fitting that they rewarded her for the hard work she puts forth on the field and in the classroom each semester.”
Corroto, a journalism major with a 3.90 grade point average, is a three-time academic all-district pick. She is one of only 12 student-athletes to earn first-team honors in the University Division of District 2. District 2 covers all universities in Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
A Hilliard, Ohio, native, Corroto has played in all 20 matches this season at the midfield position. The senior has scored two goals, including a score against Georgetown in yesterday’s 5-1 BIG EAST semifinal.
As a first-team selection, Corroto will now be placed on the national ballot for consideration for the CoSIDA Academic All-America team.
To qualify for the all-academic teams, student-athletes must have a minimum GPA of 3.30, reach sophomore athletic and academic standing, and participate in a minimum of 50 percent of their teams games. Student-athletes are nominated by their respective sports information directors and are voted on by members of CoSIDA.
