Swimming: WVU Women Fall to James Madison

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (October 29,2011) – The West Virginia women’s swimming and diving team fell to the ladies of James Madison today, despite some great swims by the Mountaineers. The final score was 156 to 144.
Mandie Nugent and Rachael Burnett both had an impressive day taking first in their respective events. Nugent took first in the 1000 free (10:14.12), the 200 fly (2:04.24) and the 100 fly (56.57). Burnett finished first in the 200 free (1:50.63), the 100 free (52.38) and the 500 free (4:56.46).
Freshmen Tiera Butkus and Julie Ogden stepped up for the women, Butkus taking first in the 100 back (59.55) and second in the 200 back (2:05.20). Ogden finished second in the 200 fly (2:06.49) and the 100 fly (57.61).
Danielle Smith took first in the 200 back (2:05.10), and Breanna McCann finished first in the 200 IM (2:08.49). McCann also finished third in the 100 breast (1:07.44), respectively, behind Jenelle Zee who finished second (1:06.99).
The lady Mountaineers finished the day with the team of Butkus, Eva Burlingham, Nugent and Burnett taking second in the 200 free relay (1:36.75).
Both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be back in action as they host Cincinnati and Villanova Saturday, Nov. 12 at noon.
