West Virginia battles Rutgers today in a Big East matchup between 5-2 teams. The Mountaineers are looking to regroup after losing 49-23 at Syracuse last Friday night, while Rutgers is licking its wounds following a 16-14 loss at Louisville last Friday night.
Today’s game will be televised on ABC (Mark Neely and Ray Bentley) and will air in 27 percent of the country, including locally on WTAE in Pittsburgh.
The meeting will be the 39th time West Virginia and Rutgers have met on the gridiron with West Virginia holding a 32-4-2 advantage, including winning 16 in a row since 1994.

10 – West Virginia has 14 scoring drives of TEN plays or more this year, equaling the number of 10-play scoring drives it produced in all of 2010.
9 – The Mountaineers have played NINE overtime games in its history since overtime was adopted in college football during the 1997 season. West Virginia’s last overtime game came against Connecticut in 2010.
8 – EIGHT true freshmen have suited up for the Mountaineers this year: Connor Arlia, Jared Barber, Andrew Buie, Dustin Garrison, Paul Millard, Shaq Petteway, Vernard Roberts and Avery Williams.
7 – SEVEN different receivers have caught at least one touchdown pass this year, led by Stedman Bailey’s six touchdown catches.
6 – Stedman Bailey is seeking his SIXTH straight 100-yard receiving performance today against Rutgers. Bailey has had consecutive 100-yard efforts against Maryland (113), LSU (115), Bowling Green (112), Connecticut (178) and Syracuse (130).
5 – Rutgers is currently ranked FIFTH in the nation in possession time, the Knights holding the ball for an average of 34 minutes per game.
4 – All FOUR of Rutgers’ victories against West Virginia have come in Piscataway – 1921, 1984, 1992 and 1994.
3 – West Virginia’s coverage units have allowed THREE returns for touchdowns this year – two on kickoffs against LSU and Syracuse and one on a punt against Marshall.
2 – Quarterback Geno Smith has TWO career 400-yard total offensive performances, both this year, against LSU (468) and Connecticut (431).
