Men's Soccer: BIG EAST Showdown

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 18 West Virginia men’s soccer team will travel to Marquette for a BIG EAST match on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m., at Valley Fields in Milwaukee, Wis.
The Mountaineers have a 7-4-1 record and a 3-1-0 mark in conference play, tying them for third place with Georgetown in the BIG EAST Blue Division. WVU has won its last three with three-consecutive shutouts in which the defense has allowed just four shots on-goal in the span.
For their efforts, defenders Paul Ehrenworth, Raymon Gaddis and Eric Schoenle were named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week, while defender Matt Drake was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Offensively, midfielder Shadow Sebele has continued to shine, notching two penalty kick goals in a 2-0 win over Pitt on Wednesday evening. Sebele now leads the team in points with 15 and is second in goals with five. Forward Andy Bevin leads in goal scoring with six, while recording two assists.
Goalkeeper Justin Holmes has four shutouts and has allowed six goals for a goals-against average of 0.73. Holmes has also made 20 saves.
WVU is out-scoring its opponents 16-12, and has taken more shots (153-98) and corner kicks (82-43) than its opponents.
Marquette comes into the match with a 6-5-2 overall record and is the only team with a perfect 4-0-0 record through the first four BIG EAST matches. The mark puts the Golden Eagles atop the standings in the Blue Division of the conference with 12 points.
As a team the Golden Eagles are out-scoring opponents 19-16, they are however being out-shot 214-202.
Sebastian Jansson scored in the 15th minute on Wednesday evening to lead Marquette to a stunning 1-0 victory over No. 12 Notre Dame. It was Marquette’s first victory against the Irish since 1990.
Freshman C. Nortey leads the team with six goals and one assist for 13 points, while Andy Huftalin has scored three goals. Bryan Ciesiulka is the assists leader with three.
David Check has started 12 games in net, allowing 14 goals for a 1.07 goals-against average. He has made 72 saves and has recorded two shutouts.
WVU leads the all-time series 5-0-1 and is 2-0-1 in Milwaukee.
The squads met last year in Morgantown with playoff implications on the line and the Mountaineers came away with a 3-0 win. Franck Tayou scored the opening and closing goals, while Shadow Sebele scored the second goal of the match.
