Women's Track: WVU Track Returns to Action

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 8 West Virginia University track and field team is back in action this weekend with a trip to the Penn State Relays on Saturday, Jan. 8, at the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track in University Park, Pa. Meet time is set for 10 a.m.
The Mountaineers enter competition after a good showing at the WVU Holiday Classic on Dec. 4, where senior Chelsea Carrier led WVU with three BIG EAST qualifying finishes.
The Buckhannon, W.Va., native earned her first qualifying time with a first-place showing in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.52. She then returned later in the afternoon to post her second and third qualifying standards with a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash (25.45) and a first-place finish in the high jump (1.70-meters).
The Mountaineers earned a No. 8 preseason ranking from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association this week, based on last season’s top 10 finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
WVU finished as the No. 1 BIG EAST team in the meet, as all seven student-athletes that competed finished as All-Americans.
