Gymnastics: Floor Lineup Ranked No. 16

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Following a season-best 49.225 showing in a pair of wins on Jan. 29, the West Virginia gymnastics team moves to No. 16 in this week’s GymInfo floor rankings.
The Mountaineers (4-2, 2-1 EAGL) jumped seven spots via their 48.755 season average. Additionally, the squad also ranks No. 24 (48.645) on vault.
Freshman Hope Sloanhoffer and senior Amy Bieski, both coming off season-high 9.875 routines, also enjoyed a boost in their floor national rankings. Sloanhoffer, a Cornwall, N.Y., native and the three-time reigning East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Rookie of the Week, ranks No. 21 (9.845), while Bieski, a Nanticoke, Pa., native, moved up eight spots this week to No. 26 (9.84).
Sloanhoffer also ranks No. 41 on vault (9.82).
Regionally, the Mountaineers rank fourth (193.835) overall in the Southeast. The team also is No. 3 on floor, No. 4 on vault and bars (48.32) and No. 6 on beam (48.115).
Sloanhoffer ranks on every event she competes, checking in at No. 7 on floor, No. 9 on vault and No. 14 on beam (9.765).
Bieski paces the Mountaineers with four regional rankings: No. 8 floor, No. 10 all-around (38.66), No. 19 bars (9.71) and No. 23 vault (9.74).
After scoring a career-best 9.825, senior Emily Kerwin jumped two spots to No. 14 on bars (9.755). Junior Nicole Roach ranks No. 17 (9.715), while classmate Tina Maloney checks in at No. 21 (9.745) on vault. Additionally, sophomore Kaylyn Millick ranks No. 12 in the all-around (38.365).
The Mountaineers pace the EAGL on floor for the first time this season. The squad continues to hold strong at No. 2 overall and also ranks second on bars. Additionally, WVU is No. 3 on vault and No. 4 on beam.
Sloanhoffer is the league’s top-ranked vaulter for the second straight week and third time this season. She also is No. 2 on floor and No. 4 on beam.
Bieski ranks just behind Sloanhoffer on floor at No. 3. She also is No. 6 in the all-around and No. 9 on bars.
Kerwin and Roach rank No. 4 and No. 7, respectively, on bars, while Millick is No. 8 in the all-around.
The Mountaineers earned a pair of EAGL wins over the weekend, scoring 194.075 to defeat Rutgers (191.15) and Pitt (189.025). In addition to Kerwin’s career bars mark, Millick also set a career best with her first place, 9.9 floor routine.
WVU returns to the road on Feb. 6 and travels to No. 21 Penn State for a 2 p.m. quad-meet with Pitt and Bridgeport at Rec Hall, in University Park, Pa.
