Women's Track: WVU to Race at PSU Nationals

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team returns to action this weekend with the Penn State Nationals at the Ashenfelter III Indoor Track in University Park, Pa., on Jan. 28-29. Competition is set to begin at 4:45 p.m., on Friday and at 9:30 a.m., on Saturday.
The No. 7-ranked Mountaineers will face some of the toughest competition from around the country including Tennessee, Georgetown, Clemson, Virginia Tech, Central Florida and Ohio State.
West Virginia will compete in a total of 12 events during the meet including the 4x800-meter relay invitational, the distance medley relay and the 4x400-meter relay.
This week’s national poll announced by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association ranked WVU at No. 7 behind Oregon, Texas A&M, LSU, Clemson, Tennessee and Arkansas, after an excellent showing at the WVU State Farm games on Jan. 22.
The Mountaineers earned eight top finishes including two from senior Chelsea Carrier. The Buckhannon, W.Va., native took first in the 60-meter hurdles (8.46) and the long jump (6.07 meters).
