Volleyball: WVU No. 1 in Digs Per Set

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team is ranked No. 1 in digs per set in the nation in the latest NCAA statistics released this week.
“I am proud of our squad for having such a great mentality defensively,” coach Jill Kramer says. “Defense is built on consistent team effort and attitude. We’ve been doing a great job of bringing our best effort every time we step into the gym.”
The Mountaineers (11-6, 1-1 BIG EAST) rank No. 1 on the list with 19.94 digs per set, while Baylor follows in second with 18.85 per set, Dartmouth in third (18.87), SMU in fourth (18.58) and Southeast Missouri State in fifth (18.41).
Senior Bonnie West leads the Mountaineers and is third in the BIG EAST in digs, with 277 on the season, while averaging 5.13 per set.
On Sept. 17, the Wildomar, Calif., native broke the school record for most career digs with 19 against Cal State Fullerton. West now owns 1,727 for her career.
The Mountaineers also are ranked No. 45 for assists per sent and No. 47 for kills per set.
WVU will continue conference action this weekend with trips to Seton Hall and Rutgers on Oct. 2 and 3, respectively. Both matches are slated for 2 p.m.
