MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University women’s soccer team will play a 90-minute exhibition match against Indiana on Tuesday, Aug. 10, at 7 p.m., at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The exhibition contest is free and open to the public.
The Mountaineers return eight starters and 13 letterwinners from last season’s squad that advanced to the NCAA second round. WVU opened preseason camp on Aug. 4, giving the Mountaineers less than a week of preparation before its first of two exhibition matches this fall.
“I am pleased with the progress made thus far,” says coach Nikki Izzo-Brown, who begins her 15th season in charge of the Mountaineers. “The ladies have been really focused and are building on different concepts that we need heading into our season.
“We want to continue making progress on everything we’ve worked on since the start of preseason. And we need to do that without making mental errors. We want to win (tomorrow), but we want to also build on what we’ve started and limit our mistakes.”
The Hoosiers are led by ninth-year coach Mick Lyon and return eight starters and 14 letterwinners from a year ago.
“Indiana is a very organized, athletic team,” says Izzo-Brown of her Big Ten foe. “They have a history of success and it was important for us to play a quality program in the preseason.”
WVU travels to Wake Forest on Aug. 14 for a final exhibition match before its season opener at home on Aug. 20 against Penn State.
