MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Six members of the West Virginia University swimming team will travel to Irvine, Calif., for the 2010 ConocoPhillips National Championships from Aug. 3-7, at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Complex.
Juniors Taylor Camp and Eric Johnson and sophomore Jake Querciagrossa will represent the men’s side, while redshirt sophomore Sara Conner and sophomores Rachael Burnett and Breanna McCann will represent the women.
"As WVU continues to build the program and we make that commitment to taking the next step towards being a top program at all levels, having these six swimmers qualify and compete at this meet is a great step,” coach Vic Riggs says. “Four of the six will be competing at the summer nationals for the first time and coming off last year where WVU only had one swimmer at the meet to six this year shows what direction we are moving. It will be a fun week and should help them reach their goals of representing WVU at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials."
Camp will be swimming the 100 fly and 200 fly. Johnson will swim the 200 back and Querciagrossa will compete in the 400 IM.
The women’s 200 back will feature Conner, while Burnett will swim in the 400 free, 400 IM, 200 fly and 800 free. McCann will round out the women’s participants in the 200 IM.
More than 30 U.S. Olympians, including Ryan Lochte, Michael Phelps and Katie Hoff will be attending the championships. The championships also serve as the USA National Team selection for the 2010 Pan Pacific Championships, 2010 Junior Pan Pacs, 2010 Short Course World Championships and 2011 World University Games.
Competition will be shown on NBC from Aug. 7-8. The NBC show on Aug. 7 will air from 4-6 p.m. ET and the show on Aug. 8 will air from 4:30 to 6 p.m. ET. The meet will also be webcast LIVE by Swimnetwork.com throughout the duration of the competition.
