Baseball: Jones, Broadwater Named All-Stars

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University baseball players Jonathan Jones and Marcus Broadwater have each been named Valley League All-Stars, announced by the league.
The 2010 Valley League Baseball All-Star game will be held on Sunday, July 11, at Eagle Field in Veterans Memorial Park on James Madison University’s campus. The annual game, which pits players selected from the six southern-most teams in the league against a squad chosen from the five northern-most teams, will feature two 25-team squads and free substitution.
Jones, a rising junior left-handed pitcher, will represent the North All-Star Team as a member of the Winchester Royals. The Fredericksburg, Va., native is 2-1 with an impressive 2.35 ERA in five appearances, including three games started. In 23 innings, Jones has struck out 28 while holding the opposition to a .220 batting average.
In his two-year career at WVU, Jones is 8-3 with 81 strikeouts in 97 innings pitched. He is also a two-year letterwinner.
Broadwater, a right-hander with a sweeping ¾ delivery, will play for the South All-Stars. As a member of the Rockbridge Rapids, the Clarksburg resident is one of the team’s top relievers with a 3.86 ERA in 12 appearances. The rising redshirt senior has fanned 16 in 18.2 frames, and is holding opponents to a .191 average.
