MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Once again proving to be an elite program both on and off the track, the West Virginia University women’s track and field team was well represented with 10 athletes qualifying to make the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s all-Academic team.
“What a great honor bestowed upon this group,” says WVU track and field coach Sean Cleary. “Ten all-academic awards is a tremendous honor for these girls, the program, the department and WVU. Each of these young ladies competed at the NCAA Championships and equaled their on-track performances in the classroom.
“2010 has been a year for the record books for this team. Nothing could make me prouder to wrap up the season and prepare for the future.”
WVU came in fourth place in the country with 10 runners qualifying to make the list. The runners who made the list were Marie-Louise Asselin, Keri Bland, Sarah-Anne Brault, Kaylyn Christopher, Clara Grandt, Kate Harrison, Ahna Lewis, Jessica O’Connell, April Rotilio and Katelyn Williams.
Topping the list was Nebraska with 17 athletes, while BYU (15) and Stanford (10) followed closely behind.
A total of 551 NCAA Division I athletes across the country were honored by the association. To qualify, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or participated in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships (including preliminary rounds) in their respective event.
