MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Senior Keri Bland and junior Jessica O’Connell dominated competition this weekend at the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) Championships in Miramar, Fla.
“I am very happy with the way the girls ran this weekend,” West Virginia University track and cross country coach Sean Cleary says. “It is very difficult to still be running at the level that they are this far into the summer.
“To win any race wearing your national colors in a tremendous honor, to have athletes from one university do it on the same weekend is a great moment for the entire athletic department.”
Bland and O’Connell started the weekend with an excellent showing in the 1,500-meter race on Saturday, as they took first and second. Bland took the top spot with a time of 4:14.52, while O’Connell finished in 4:18.31.
O’Connell returned this afternoon to capture first in the 5,000-meter run. The Calgary, Alberta, Canada, native, finished with a time of 17:15.73.
The Mountaineers have now completed the 2010 season.
