Baseball: Buckner Earns Another National Award

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University baseball player Grant Buckner has been named the CollegeBaseballInsider.com National Player of the Week for his performance last weekend against Notre Dame.
In three games against the Fighting Irish, Buckner finished 8-for-12 with four home runs, 14 RBIs and seven runs scored. The Elkview native’s signature game occurred in the first contest, going 4-for-5 with three home runs, a school-record 10 RBIs, one double and five runs scored.
Buckner has earned three national honors this week, winning the Pro-Line Athletic National Hitter of the Week award by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and being named to the Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week Team. The standout third baseman also was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week.
The redshirt junior owns a 14-game hitting streak, and is batting .364 with eight home runs, 43 RBIs, 12 doubles and 30 runs scored. He is third on the team with 20 multiple-hit games and second with 11 multiple-RBI performances.
During his streak, he is batting .475 with six home runs, 22 RBIs, eight doubles and 16 runs scored. His overall batting average is tied for 17th in the conference, while his 13 hit-by-pitches are first on the team and tied for the fourth-most in the BIG EAST.
