Rowing: Mountaineers Travel for Knecht Cup

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rowing team will travel to Cherry Hill, N.J. Saturday, April 10, to compete in the 2010 Knecht Cup Regatta.
Knecht Cup is one of the largest collegiate regattas and will be held on the Cooper River. The Mountaineers will compete against teams from across the country including BIG EAST foes Pitt, Villanova and Rutgers.
WVU has seven boats racing in tomorrow’s events, starting at 8 a.m. with the Varsity 4+ boat racing in the third heat. The Varsity squad will race three additional boats in the Varsity 8+ race and the women’s second Varsity 8+ and 4+ events. The Novice team will have two boats racing in the Novice 4+ event and one in heat three of the Novice 8+ race.
This weekend will mark the ninth time the Mountaineers have traveled to the Knecht Cup since 2002. WVU finished last year’s Knecht Cup with two boats placing in the grand finals in which the Varsity 4+ boat took fourth with 9:02.1 and the Novice 4+ Team ‘A’ finished with a time of 9:30.07 to land a third-place finish.
