MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – This past weekend, members of the West Virginia University men’s soccer and wrestling teams attended the second annual Cranium Crawl 5K Walk & Run. The event was put together to help raise money for The Brain Injury Association of West Virginia.
In addition to taking pictures with patients at HealthSouth MountainView Rehab Hospital, student-athletes on both teams set aside time to sign schedule posters and media guides for fans and everyone in attendance on the morning of April 17. The Mountaineers in attendance also talked to the participants who were competing in the race and patients at the hospital.
“The experience at HealthSouth was amazing,” freshman soccer player Moeryhan “Peabo” Doue says. “Speaking with the patients there made us realize that we need to appreciate everything that we have in life.”
Redshirt sophomore wrestler Ryan Goodman reiterated the same feeling.
“The benefit was a great experience in getting to meet and talk with the patients, and it was a great way to interact with them.”
A few days prior on April 15, members of the women’s soccer team visited the hospital and spoke with patients at HealthSouth. A total of 13 student-athletes participated in numerous activities with the people in the adult rehabilitation program.
“It's always nice to go out and see the people in our community who support what we do on the soccer field,” freshman Bri Rodriguez says. “Being able to visit and bring a smile to someone's face was very exciting for us Mountaineers.”
