Rowing: George Mason Tops WVU

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rowing team completed its second-annual spring home regatta, today, on the Monongahela River against George Mason.
The racing slate consisted of a Novice 4+, a Varsity 4+, a Varsity 8+ and a second Varsity 8+ race, in which George Mason pulled through with the lead in each of the events.
In the first race of the day, WVU’s Novice 4+ team ‘A’ (8.46.10) and team ‘B’ (8.52.36) boats finished behind George Mason, which crossed the line in 8:39.70. The Varsity 4+ boat (8.59.90) of Keyara Stevenson, Caitlin Murphy, Amelia Nelson, Melissa Shaver with coxswain Anastasia DuPont, pushed for the lead but fell behind George Mason (8.45.13).
The Mountaineers’ Varsity 8+ (7.31.68) and second Varsity 8+ (7.49.41) crews also fought for a victory, but were passed by George Mason’s Varsity 8+ and second Varsity 8+ crews and their winning times of 7.26.80 and 7.36.76.
WVU will continue action on April 25, as they travel to Worcester, Mass. to compete in the BIG EAST Championships.
