Track: WVU Completes Stanford Invitational

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team completed its trip to the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., Friday evening with all five student-athletes posting personal-best times and qualifying for the BIG EAST and ECAC Championships.
“We came to Stanford to get a job done and we finished with five-for-five qualifying for championships,” coach Sean Cleary says. “I am very pleased the team’s performance today.”
Senior Clara Grandt led the team as she finished in seventh place in section one of the 5,000-meter race with a BIG EAST qualifying time of 16:01.18. The finish places her second on WVU’s all-time performance list behind Olympian Megan Metcalfe.
In section two of the 5,000 meter junior Kate Harrison finished in fifth (16:24.40), while sophomore Sarah Anne Brault finished 11th (16:27.66) and Ahna Lewis finished in 14th (16:29.94).
Junior Stephanie Caruso started the day off in section four of the 5,000 meter, as she crossed the line in 11th place with a time of 17:26.28.
The rest of the WVU track team is set to continue competition tomorrow at the Bill Van Horne Invitational on the campus of Wheeling Jesuit in Wheeling, W.Va. Competition is set to begin at 8:45 a.m. ET.
