MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University gymnast Amy Bieski has been named the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Gymnast of the Week.
The honor is the fourth this season for the junior and the sixth of her career. Six Mountaineers have earned 11 awards this year.
Bieski’s latest honor follows a first-place, 39.125 showing in WVU’s 193.775-193.0 win at EAGL foe North Carolina on March 13. The Nanticoke, Pa., native tied for first on vault (9.825) and second on bars (9.75). She also finished third on floor with a 9.85 mark, the meet’s second-best score, and tied for fourth place on beam with a 9.7.
Bieski, the Mountaineers’ lone all-arounder, has passed the 39.0-point threshold in six of the last eight meets. She owns 13 career 39.0-plus scores, the program’s sixth-best total, and is in sole possession of seventh place on WVU’s all-time list.
Additionally, Saturday’s score brought Bieski’s career point total to 1,357.85. She needs 19.4 points to break onto WVU’s all-time career points list.
WVU’s (13-7, 7-0 EAGL) victory over the Tar Heels concluded the team’s regular-season road schedule. The Mountaineers wrap-up their regular season and play host to Bridgeport on Friday, March 19, at 7 p.m., at the WVU Coliseum. Seniors Shelly Purkat, Kiersten Spoerke, Chelsi Tabor and Ashley Wilson will be recognized following the meet.
