Volleyball: Mountaineers to Host BIG EAST Play

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team is set to host BIG EAST competitors No. 21 Cincinnati at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6 and Louisville at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 7, at the WVU Coliseum.
Saturday’s match has been designated a WVU volleyball alumni match. The Mountaineers will recognize former WVU volleyball letterwinners after the second set.
Also on Saturday, each WVU student wearing the official WVU fan shirt, with a valid student ID can register to win free pizza for a year from Papa John's. The second place winner will win a year supply of Coca-Cola, and just for registering, each student will receive a buy one pizza get one free coupon courtesy of Papa John's.
The Mountaineers enter this weekend with a 14-12 (4-6 BIG EAST) record after dropping matches to Marquette (3-0) and Syracuse (3-2) last weekend.
Senior Lauren Evans has continued to be a dominating force for the Mountaineers this season, as she leads the team in kills (240), hitting percentage (.302) and blocks (76). Last weekend, Evans led with 21 kills, including 14 against the Orange.
WVU currently leads the BIG EAST in digs, with 598 on the season and an average of 15.74 digs per set.
Cincinnati is 22-4 (9-1 BIG EAST) after defeating IUPUI and Villanova last weekend. The Bearcats are ranked No. 21 in the latest AVAC Coaches’ Poll, marking the seventh-straight week they have been ranked.
Stephanie Niemer leads the nationally-ranked Bearcats and was named the BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week for the sixth time this season on Monday. Niemer recorded 12 kills and eight digs against IUPUI followed with her 11th double-double of the season against Villanova, putting together an 18-kill, 16-dig performance on a .552 hitting percentage.
Louisville (15-6, 9-1 BIG EAST) clenched its sixth-straight BIG EAST tournament berth last weekend as it defeated Villanova in a 3-2 match.
Lola Arslanbekova led with 13 kills in the win, as the Cardinals posted their ninth win out of the last 10 matches. Arslanbekova currently leads the team with 288 kills this season.
