MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia women’s soccer players Kerri Butler and Blake Miller were recognized by the BIG EAST Conference today as Butler earned Goalkeeper of the Week honors and Miller was named to the weekly honor roll.
Butler guided the Mountaineers to a pair of shutouts in an 3-0-0 week in conference play. The senior faced 37 shots and eight corner kicks while collecting wins No. 37-39 in her career. She stands in second place all-time at WVU in goalkeeper wins and tied the school record for shutouts at 36 following WVU’s 4-0 blanking of Cincinnati on Oct. 1.
A Fredericksburg, Va., native, Butler has helped the Mountaineer defense allow only three goals in their last seven matches – a span of 650 minutes.
Miller had an outstanding week at forward for the Mountaineers, scoring three goals behind 12 shots. She now shows 18 goals in her career after a two-goal night at Cincinnati. She leads West Virginia in goals with five and recorded two shots, including an attempt that hit the crossbar off a free kick, against Louisville on Oct. 3.
The multi-goal game was the first of Miller’s career. WVU is 14-2-1 all-time when the St. Louis, Mo., native scores a goal.
Miller was also named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week and cited as WVU’s Athlete of the Week.
Butler and Miller will lead the Mountaineers in their final conference road trip of the regular season with matches at Syracuse on Oct. 8 and at St. John’s on Oct. 10.
