Volleyball: WVU Falls to Marquette

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. – The West Virginia University volleyball team fell to BIG EAST foe Marquette this evening at the Al McGuire Center in Milwaukee, Wisc.
The Golden Eagles (16-7, 7-2 BIG EAST) defeated the Mountaineers (14-11, 4-5 BIG EAST) in a 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-13) match.
The Mountaineers played well in set one as senior middle blocker Abby Norman posted six kills to lead WVU. However, behind a team .423 hitting percentage on 12 kills, Marquette managed to capture the win.
Set two started with a kill from senior middle blocker Lauren Evans to put WVU on the board first. Tied at four, the Golden Eagles then returned after a kill from Ciara Jones started a 6-0 run to regain the lead. The Mountaineers came back to within four, but fell as Jones posted her 11th kill of the match.
Marquette carried the momentum into the third set for an early 8-3 lead, and continued to dominate the rest of the set as Kelsey Mattai ended the match with a kill.
Norman led the Mountaineers in play with eight kills and two blocks, while Evans followed with seven kills.
The Mountaineers are set to complete the weekend with a 2 p.m. match at Syracuse on Sunday, Oct. 31.
