MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia battles Connecticut Friday night in a Big East Conference game that is being televised nationally on ESPN2 (Joe Tessitore and Rod Gilmore).
The Mountaineers (5-2, 1-1) are looking to bounce back after last Saturday’s 19-14 loss to Syracuse, while UConn (3-4, 0-2) is looking for its first conference win of the year after dropping Big East road games at Rutgers and Louisville.
MSN’s radio coverage begins with The Mountaineers Today at 7 p.m. Sirius satellite radio listeners can access the MSN broadcast on channel 122 or on channel 143 on the Best of XM.
Kickoff is set for 8 p.m.

10 – Jock Sanders needs one more touchdown catch to tie Brandon Myles (2004-06) for TENTH place on WVU’s career list with 13 TD receptions.
9 – In Connecticut’s last NINE losses, the Huskies have had fourth quarter leads in six of those games. One of those fourth quarter leads came against West Virginia in Morgantown.
8 – West Virginia’s rushing offense has produced EIGHT touchdowns on the ground so far this year. Noel Devine leads the way with four rushing TDs.
7 – The Mountaineer offense is searching for its SEVENTH scoring play of 20 yards or longer from the line of scrimmage. WVU’s longest scoring play from scrimmage this year was Noel Devine’s 48-yard TD run against UNLV.
6 – Devine is SIXTH in WVU history with 27 rushing touchdowns.
5 – Quarterback Geno Smith has thrown at least two touchdown passes in FIVE of seven games this season. Smith, who has 15 TD passes in seven games this year, has thrown at least one TD pass in all seven games in 2010.
4 – West Virginia’s defense this week ranks FOURTH in the country in total defense and pass defense. The Mountaineers are giving up 245.9 yards per game overall and just 148.4 yards per game through the air.
3 – All THREE times West Virginia has played at Connecticut the Mountaineers have scored at least 30 points, including a 35-13 win at Rentschler Field in 2008.
2 –Devine has rushed for more than 120 yards TWICE this year and has topped 100 yards in a game four times. Nineteen times Devine has rushed for more than 100 yards in a game for his career including 178 in last year’s 28-24 win over UConn in Morgantown.
1 – West Virginia has lost only ONCE in eight games following a loss under third-year coach Bill Stewart. Since 2008, the Mountaineers have had only one two-game losing streak (East Carolina and Colorado).
