Women's Soccer: WVU Cracks Top 20

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia women’s soccer team moved up in a pair of national rankings this week, checking in at No. 18 in the Soccer America poll and No. 24 in today’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll. Junior forward Blake Miller also landed a spot on the BIG EAST weekly honor roll.
WVU is coming off a pair of conference home wins to close out the regular season, giving the Mountaineers their ninth straight victory. The win streak ties the school record for consecutive wins, joining the 2002 and 2003 Mountaineer teams.
A St. Louis, Mo., native, Miller continued her strong play with a three-point game in helping WVU shutout Connecticut, 3-0. Her goal against the Huskies was her team-leading ninth of the season and 22nd of her career. Miller, who attempted a game-best five shots against Providence, has scored seven goals in league play – second most in the conference.
Miller and the Mountaineers have claimed the No. 2 seed in the American Division, pairing West Virginia against Rutgers, the No. 3 seed in the National Division, in a BIG EAST quarterfinal match on Sunday, Oct. 31. Kickoff at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m.
