Volleyball: WVU to Host "Backyard Brawl"

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team is set to host BIG EAST foe Pitt in its version of the “Backyard Brawl” on Saturday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. at the WVU Coliseum.
The match has been designated “Dollar Night” with all hot dogs, popcorn and Coca-Cola products available for purchase for just one dollar. Admission is free.
The Mountaineers are 13-8 (3-3 BIG EAST) after defeating USF last weekend in a 3-1 match in Morgantown.
Senior middle blocker Lauren Evans led the team with 14 kills and six blocks in the match, while senior middle blocker Abby Norman finished with 11 kills, including five kills with a .833 hitting clip to bring the Mountaineers back to win set two.
As a team, the Mountaineers are No. 1 in the conference and No. 3 in the NCAA for digs, with 1301 total, and an 18.5 average per set.
The Panthers enter the match with a 9-12 (4-2 BIG EAST) record after defeating Georgetown (3-1) and falling to USF (3-2).
In the win over the Hoyas, senior Amy Town led Pitt, with her fourth double-double of the season with 11 kills and 11 digs. Senior Rachel Kalberer and Kiesha Leggs also recorded 11 digs a piece in the win.
On the season, Town leads the Panthers with 279 kills and 150 digs.
Last season, the Mountaineers fell to the Panthers in a 3-0 match in Pittsburgh.
