MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University swimming and diving teams will travel to College Park, Md., on Saturday, Jan. 23, to take on the Maryland Terrapins in a dual meet. The meet will begin at 1 p.m. in the Eppley Recreation Natatorium.
West Virginia is coming off a BIG EAST sweep of Pitt with the men winning 154.5-145.5 and the women holding off the Panthers, 165-133. In that meet, junior George Farquhar and freshman Rachael Burnett scored three wins apiece to lead their respective sides to victory. Seniors Morgan Callaway and Kayla Andrews and freshmen Jared Goldthorpe and Robyn Matthews also scored two wins apiece.
The Maryland men fell to both Penn State and Pitt last weekend by scores of 253-100 and 236-168, respectively. Sophomore Andrew Relihan led the Terrapins with a pair of second-place finishes in the 200 IM and 200 back. Relihan also finished third in the 400 IM.
On the women’s side Maryland topped Villanova, 247-106, and Pitt, 181-172, while losing to Penn State, 185-168. Sophomore Ginny Gloved finished 100 back, 100 free and 200 free all in first place. Glover also swam the last leg of the 400 free relay win that sealed the victory over Pitt.
Last season the teams were in Morgantown where the men defeated the Terrapins by a score of 147-84, however the Mountaineer women fell 134-103. Seniors Justin Galbreath and Brandon Robinson and sophomores Taylor Camp, Matt O’Neill and Martin Vanis all had first-place finishes for the men. Andrews and Callaway led the way for the women with two wins apiece in the loss.
The Mountaineers will then return home on Saturday, Jan. 30, for Senior Day in a double-dual meet against Virginia Tech and Duquesne start at noon in the WVU Natatorium.
