MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team will head to Cincinnati, Ohio, on Oct. 2-4, to compete in the Queen City Invitational.
The tournament is scheduled to start on Friday at 9 a.m. with doubles play and continue with the singles competition after 1 p.m.
“We will be competing against both mid-western and BIG EAST teams this weekend,” says coach Marc Walters, “but I expect we’ll have a good showing in the competition.”
The doubles competition will consist of flight ‘A’ team senior Gabriela Blaskovicova and junior Ashley Pilsbury while sophomore Veronica Cardenas and freshman Emily Mathis compete as the flight ‘B’ doubles team.
Flight ‘C’ doubles will be played by sophomore Catie Wickline and freshman Liv Pettersson who were flight ‘B’ finalists in last week’s ECAC Army Invitational after three straight wins.
Sophomore Kathryn Haught will be the flight ‘A’ singles competitor for her second straight tournament after capturing several wins in West Point last week. Flight ‘B’ will include Mathis and Pilsbury, Cardenas and Blaskovicova will make up flight ‘C’, and Pettersson and Wickline will compete for the flight ‘D’ title.
“Since last week, we’ve been looking really good at practice,” says Walters. “I am looking forward to seeing the girls step up and have sharper games.”
