The first West Virginia PBS broadcast comes as a doubleheader and is scheduled for Sept. 6. Coverage begins at 1:30 p.m. as the WVU women’s team plays host to Boston at 1:30 p.m. at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The WVU men’s team will follow suit with its match against Buffalo, game two of the WVU/Nike Classic, presented by Jerseys Subs, at 4 p.m.
"We're very pleased that West Virginia PBS will continue to broadcast Mountaineer men's soccer to the state,” WVU men’s coach Marlon LeBlanc says. “It's a great privilege and opportunity to be able to play on television and showcase our program to West Virginia."
The Mountaineer women’s squad will appear again on WVPBS on Sept. 20 in a home match against Southeastern Conference foe Tennessee. Kick off is set for 1 p.m. The two squads met last year, with the Mountaineers posting a 1-0 victory over the Volunteers in Knoxville.
Izzo-Brown’s squad will be featured for a third time on television, this time on ESPNU, against Notre Dame on Oct. 2 at 6 p.m.
"We are very excited to again showcase our program on television this fall," WVU women’s coach Nikki Izzo-Brown says. "Playing on ESPNU and West Virginia PBS is a great opportunity for a lot of fans that normally would not get a chance to see us play, to watch us on television. These games will also allow soccer fans to watch BIG EAST soccer, one of the best conferences in the country."
In 2008, the women’s team registered a 14-3-6 overall mark, going 7-1-3 in league action to win its fourth BIG EAST American Division regular-season title. The Mountaineers then advanced to their ninth-straight NCAA Tournament. The squad defeated Princeton, 2-1, in the first round and moved on to the NCAA Round of 32 for the sixth time in nine postseason tournaments.
Last year, the men’s team posted a 5-9-5 overall mark and went 3-4-4 in BIG EAST play. The team pulled off two upset victories, defeating No. 4-ranked Connecticut on the road and No. 22-ranked Ohio State at home. The Mountaineer men’s squad went on to qualify for its fifth-straight BIG EAST Tournament.
