MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia women’s soccer player Kerri Butler has been named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Butler, a junior, worked all 110 minutes, making two saves over the weekend in a scoreless tie with visiting Ohio State. The shutout was the first of the season for Butler and 19th of her career. A Fredericksburg, Va., resident, Butler was excellent in her communication with a West Virginia backline that featured three first-time starters.
This BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week honor is a first for Butler, a 2008 Soccer Buzz second team all-Mid-Atlantic region selection. Her goals-against average of 0.56 last season ranked second-best in school history and her 11 shutouts were the most by any conference goalkeeper.
West Virginia returns to action on Aug. 29-31 with a trip to University Park, Pa., to battle Penn State and BYU in the Penn State Invitational.
