Track: WVU Ready For NCAA Regionals

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.– A record 11 West Virginia University track and field student-athletes will compete at the NCAA East Regional Track and Field Championship in Greensboro, N.C., this weekend. The meet will take place May 29-30 at North Carolina A&T’s Irwin Belk Track.
Clara Grandt, Marie-Louise Asselin, Ahna Lewis and Sarah Brault will be competing in the 5,000-meter race while Chelsea Carrier will compete in the 100-meter hurdle event. Grandt won the 5,000-meter title at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championship on May 3.
Carrier, a Buckhannon, W.Va., native won both the BIG EAST Outdoor and ECAC Championship titles in the 100-meter hurdle event this season. She is looking to beat her personal-best time of 13.30.
Jessica O’Connell and Karly Hamric will race in the 1,500-meter event, while Alison Spiker will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
April Rotilio will compete in the 400-meter race, while in the field events Alex Acker will compete in the pole vault and Natasha Redman will compete in the high jump.
The top five individual event place finishers and the top three relay teams from each region automatically qualify to the NCAA Championship meet. Grant and Asselin have already qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 10,000-meter event.
