Track: WVU Finishes Third At ECAC Championships

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team finished in third place with 47.25 points today at the ECAC Championships in Princeton, N.J.
Today’s team finish is tied for a program-best, joining the 2005 squad. UConn took first place with 88 points followed by Virginia with 58. Duke finished fourth with 41.25 points, while Albany rounded out the top five with 39.
“We set a goal in the beginning of the year to finish in the top three at this meet, and I’m so thrilled that we achieved it,” commented Coach Sean Cleary. “We had a lot of great performances and are now looking ahead to the NCAA Regionals.”
Chelsea Carrier won the 100-meter hurdle title after posting a personal-best time of 13.30. This is Carrier's second championship title of the season for the Buckhannon, W.Va., native. The sophomore won the BIG EAST Outdoor Championship title in the event on May 3.
In the 3,000-meter race, Marie-Louise Asselin placed third with a time of 9:28.19, followed by Clara Grandt who finished fifth in 9:34.27.
Karly Hamric and Jessica O’Connell both posted season-best times in the 1,500-meter event. Hamric took second place with a time of 4:22.89, while O’Connell posted a time of 4:25.86 to finished fourth.
April Rotilio finished sixth in the 400-meter race with a time of 55.12.
In the high jump, Katelyn Williams cleared 1.70-meters to finish seventh and score the final points of the meet for WVU to seal the third-place finish.
Next up, the Mountaineers will travel to Greensboro, N.C. to compete at the NCAA Regional Meet May 29-30.
