Rowing: Boats Prepped for BIG EAST Championships

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rowing team is set to travel to Pennsauken, N.J., on Saturday, April 25, for the BIG EAST Championships on the Cooper River.
The Mountaineers will have three entries competing this weekend, including the Varsity 4+, the Varsity 8+ and the Novice 8+. Racing is set to begin at 7 a.m. with the Varsity 8+ race.
Last season the Mountaineers’ weekend was highlighted with two boats qualifying for the petite finals. The Varsity 8+ finished behind Louisville (7:13.40) with a time of 7:19.64, while the Varsity 4+ finished in 8:27.5, ahead of Rutgers (8:41.02).
The Mountaineers completed the competition in eighth place with 28 team points.
Last weekend, the Mountaineers traveled to Oak Ridge, Tenn., for the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship Regatta, where three boats placed in the Petite Finals.
The Varsity 8+ finished in fifth in the petite finals with a time of 7:25.5, a deck ahead of Jacksonville (7:26.0), while the Varsity 4+ placed 12th out of 27 entries with a sixth-place finish (8:43.9) and the Novice 8+ posted a second-place finish (7:37.9) behind Purdue (7:27.6).
