MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Sophomore Chelsea Carrier took second place in the 100-meter hurdles, and three members of the West Virginia University track and field team posted BIG EAST and ECAC qualifying marks, as the Mountaineers completed day one of the Sea Ray Relays this evening.
Carrier’s time of 13.49, topped her NCAA Regional qualifying time of 13.63, set on April 4, and was the second-best time of her career.
Sophomore Brooke Boening and junior April Rotilio took fifth-place finishes in the 5,000-meter and 400-meter events, respectively. Boening posted a BIG EAST qualifying time of 17:29.87, while Rotilio’s time of 55.53 qualified her for both the BIG EAST and ECAC Championships.
After a delay due to inclement weather, Stephanie Caruso took sixth place in the 3,000-meter race (10:15.83), while Karly Hamric placed seventh in the 1,500-meter event. Hamric’s time of 4:28.43 was a BIG EAST and ECAC qualifying time.
“Considering the weather conditions this weekend, the majority of the team left the track pleased with their progression today,” commented Coach Sean Cleary. “WVU had great representation today, and we are looking for another successful day tomorrow.”
In field events, Alex Acker placed seventh, clearing 3.75-meters in the pole vault event, while Katelyn Williams tied for ninth in the high jump event, topping 1.65-meters.
