Tennis: Mountaineers Set to Face Georgetown

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University tennis team is set to return to BIG EAST action with a 4 p.m. match against Georgetown on Tuesday, March 31, at the McDonough Tennis Complex in Washington, D.C.
The Mountaineers are coming off a week of rest after a 1-3 showing over spring break, in which they defeated New Orleans (6-1) and fell to Troy (5-2), Southern Miss (6-1) and Lamar (5-2).
Sophomore Ashley Pilsbury led the Mountaineers with a 3-1 record in singles play as she posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over New Orleans’ Anita Racz at the No. 6 spot, a 6-4, 6-3 win over Shannon Rogers from Southern Miss and a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Lamar’s Manami Kuroda.
In doubles play, juniors Stephanie LaFortune and Monique Burton lead the team with four-straight victories, including a clutch win over Southern Miss’s Hollie Robinson and Rogers 8-2.
The Hoyas moved to 3-12 this season after defeating Longwood 7-0 and falling to Rutgers 7-0 last weekend. In their win over the Lancers, the Hoyas swept all matches on the day, including a tough win from Caroline Keuhn at the No.1 spot, as she defeated Laura Simon, 6-4, 7-6 (3).
The Mountaineers own a 16-2 advantage in the all-time series record with the Hoyas. In its last meeting, WVU defeated Georgetown 7-0.
