2009 BIG EAST Postseason Bracket
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Big East Conference has announced the pairings for the 2009 women’s basketball tournament taking place at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn., beginning with first-round action Friday, March 6.
No. 12-seeded Syracuse (16-13) will take on 13th-seeded St. John’s (16-13) in the noon game, No. 9 Marquette (16-14) will face No. 16 Cincinnati (13-16) at 2 pm, 10th-seeded Georgetown (17-12) will play 15th-seeded Seton Hall (16-13) at 6 pm, and 11th-seeded West Virginia (16-13) will battle 14th-seeded Providence (10-19) at 8 pm.
All four first-round games can be viewed for free online at Big East.tv.
The winner of the Syracuse-St. John’s game will play fifth-seeded Notre Dame (21-7) on Saturday at noon. The Marquette-Cincinnati winner will face eighth-seeded USF (21-9) at 2 pm, the Georgetown-Seton Hall winner will play seventh-seeded Rutgers (18-11) at 6 pm, and the West Virginia-Providence winner will face sixth-seeded DePaul (22-8) at 8 pm.
All four games Saturday will air on Big East Television.
Top-seeded Connecticut (30-0), No. 2-seed Louisville (27-3), third-seeded Pitt (22-6) and No. 4-seed Villanova (18-12) will begin play in the quarterfinals on Sunday.
Villanova will play the noon game, Connecticut is slotted for the 2 pm contest, Louisville will play the 6 pm game and Pitt will play the night game. ESPNU will carry the quarterfinal and semifinal-round games. The championship game will air on ESPN Tuesday night at 7 pm.
