Gymnastics: WVU Ranks No. 23

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University gymnastics team dropped one spot to No. 23 in the Feb. 9 GymInfo Poll.
The Mountaineers maintained ground in the latest poll with a 194.119 average, despite not competing last week. Utah is ranked No. 1 (196.730 average), while UCLA is No. 2 (196.480). Georgia is No. 3 (196.475), Stanford is No. 4 (196.300) and Alabama is No. 5 (196.265).
WVU comes in at No. 10 in the floor exercise (48.950 average), No. 14 on the uneven bars (48.747) and No. 16 on the vault (48.887). Additionally, the team is ranked No. 3 overall, and No. 3 on each apparatus except the balance beam (No. 7, 47.544) in the Southeast Region, and No. 1 overall, and No. 1 on each apparatus except the balance beam (No. 7) in the EAGL Conference.
Three Mountaineers remain ranked in the nation’s Top 25. Senior Mehgan Morris and sophomore Amy Bieski are No. 10 (9.869) and No. 12 (9.862), respectively, on the floor exercise, while junior Chelsi Tabor is No. 20 (9.856) on the vault.
WVU is well represented in the Southeast Region rankings, as nine Mountaineers reside in the Top 20. Morris and Bieski respectively sit at No. 8 (38.737) and No. 11 (38.583) on the all-around list. Morris is also ranked No. 2 on the floor and No. 9 (9.812) on the uneven bars, while Bieski is No. 4 on the floor and No. 13 on the vault (9.812).
Tabor ranks No. 4 on the vault, and sophomore Stephanie Keaton is No. 19 on the balance beam (9.625).
A trio of Mountaineers – senior Erica Watson, sophomore Naja Johnson and freshman Nicole Roach – rank No. 11 (9.775), No. 16 (9.750) and No. 17 (9.750), respectively, on the uneven bars. Additionally, sophomore Jessica Young (No. 15, 9.762) and junior Kiersten Spoerke (No. 16, 9.756) join Morris and Bieski in the floor rankings.
The Mountaineers own three No. 1 conference rankings, as Morris is ranked No. 1 on the uneven bars and the floor, while Tabor is No. 1 on the vault. Bieski is No. 2 on the floor and No. 5 on the vault. Additionally, Morris and Bieski rank No. 3 and No. 7, respectively, in the all-around.
No. 3 Watson, No. 6 Johnson and No. 7 Roach are all represented on the conference uneven bars list, while No. 8 Young and No. 9 Spoerke are ranked on the floor exercise.
WVU continues its conference schedule this evening, as the Mountaineers compete at George Washington at 6 p.m.
