Women's Basketball: WVU Takes on E. Kentucky

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University’s women’s basketball team plays host to Ohio Valley Conference member Eastern Kentucky, Tuesday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m., at the WVU Coliseum.
The contest will mark the third-ever meeting between the two schools, with EKU holding a 2-0 series advantage. The two schools last met in the 1980 and 1981 seasons.
West Virginia (7-1) has won five straight contests and received 14 votes in the latest Associated Press poll released today. Three players are averaging double figures in scoring, led by junior all-BIG EAST guard Liz Repella’s 14.9 points and 6.8 rebounds. Freshman center Asya Bussie is second on the squad with 12.6 points per contest while junior guard Korinne Campbell is third on the team with 10.4 points, and first with 8.1 rebounds per game. Junior guard Sarah Miles averages 6.9 assists per contest, tops in the BIG EAST.
Eastern Kentucky (4-3, 2-0) brings a four-game winning streak to the meeting and is led by freshman center Alex Jones’ 11.3 points per contest.
WVU is averaging 70.4 points and 42.5 rebounds per contest and shooting 44.5% from the field. The Colonels are averaging 55.7 points and 39.1 rebounds per contest, while shooting 39.2% from the field.
WVU and EKU have shared a common opponent so far this season in Towson. The Mountaineers routed the Tigers 79-42 in the season-opener while the Colonels knocked off Towson 54-50 at the Lady Pirate Invitational at East Carolina on Nov. 27, which was their first victory of the season.
