ITA REGIONALS RESULTS
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University tennis team completed its fall season today at the ITA Regionals in Blacksburg, Va. with senior Stephanie LaFortune and reshirt junior Monique Burton representing the Mountaineers.
The duo finished the tournament with a 1-1 record in the doubles competition after winning 8-6 against Howard's Brittney Morgan and Alyssa Works, then falling short in a tough match against Virginia's No. 4 seed, Lindsey Hardenbergh and Erin Vierra, in an 8-1 match.
LaFortune also highlighted the weekend with a 6-3, 6-1, victory over Pitt's Shannon Benic in the qualifying singles competition, which was WVU's first win at Regionals in over five years.
"Monique and Stephanie did a good job representing our team this weekend ," says coach Marc Walters. "They put up a tough fight against some of the best teams in the region and were able to capture a solid win in both the singles and doubles competition."
