MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia rowing team is set to begin its 2009 fall season on Oct. 3 at the 23rd Head of the Ohio regatta. The race will take place on the Allegheny River in Pittsburgh, Pa.
“It's a well-run event close to home and we have a number of team members who are from the Pittsburgh area,” says coach Jimmy King. “It gives them an opportunity to race on familiar waters in front of family and friends.”
The competition will begin at 8 a.m. with the women’s open eight race in which WVU will have two participating boats.
The Mountaineers will have three boats competing in the open 4+ race. Another boat will race in the open double, and WVU will finish the day with two boats in the open pair competition.
This year’s race is hosted by the Three Rivers Rowing Association and will be one of the largest Head of the Ohio regattas ever. To get more information and up-to-date results visit www.headoftheohio.org.
