MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men’s and women’s swimming and diving team will continue its preseason with the annual intrasquad Blue-Gold Meet on Oct. 3 at the WVU Natatorium at 9 a.m.
“We are very young with great senior leadership and looking forward to an exciting year,” coach Vic Riggs says. “It will be fun to see what events the captains have put everyone in.”
The weekend will kickoff with the WVU Swimming & Diving Celebration tonight at 5:30 p.m., with an alumni reunion in the club level of the WVU Coliseum which will feature appetizers and refreshments sponsored by the Mountaineer Athletic Club.
The dinner will begin at 7 p.m. at the Erickson Alumni Center, with keynote speaker and legendary WVU football coach, Don Nehlen.
“With the WVU Swimming & Diving Celebration kicking the weekend off, it is a special time for our program,” Riggs says. “We are able to recognize the previous season’s accomplishments at the banquet and get an opportunity to see the new team in their first meet.”
The team will open the regular season on Oct. 17 against Marshall in the WVU Natatorium. The Thundering Herd does not have a men’s team, therefore only the women’s squad will be competing for points.
