MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will end BIG EAST dual meet action this weekend when they travel to Pitt on Saturday, Jan. 10.
West Virginia (men 3-5, women 3-6) will be visiting on short rest as it has just finished up a training trip with Arizona. Both squads were defeated by the Wildcats, last year’s national champions, on Thursday, Jan. 8.
This will be West Virginia’s first action in a dual meet since the first weekend of November when the Mountaineers were defeated by nationally ranked Louisville and then beat Cincinnati the following day.
Pitt (men 1-2, women 2-1) was last in action in the last week of November when they traveled to Bloomington, Ind., to partake in the Hoosierland Invitational. In dual meet action the Panthers have defeated St. Bonaventure, while losing to Notre Dame and splitting wins with Cincinnati.
Last season in Morgantown, WVU’s men fell to Pitt, 131-110, while the women were dropped by the Panthers, 124-119. Despite the defeat, West Virginia swimmers combined for 15 wins out of the 26 events including two wins apiece for Michael Walker, Kayla Andrews and Morgan Callaway.
The diving portion of the meet will begin at 11 a.m. with the swimming starting at noon in the Trees Pool at Trees Hall.
