MEET RESULTS
MORGANTOWN, W.Va.- Junior April Rotilio took first-place in the 400-meter race with a time of 54.64, to set a new school record in the event, as the West Virginia University track and field team finished up competition at the Penn State National Invitational today, at the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track in State College, Pa.
The 400-meter record was originally set at 54.79 in 1998 by Tameca Williams.
“We had a great weekend,” comments Coach Sean Cleary. “April (Rotilio’s) performance was fantastic and Alex (Acker) continues to impress us. Each meet we keep progressing and we keep getting better and better. I’m happy with where we are and where we are headed.”
The 4x400-meter relay team of Jordann Mitchell, Chelsea Carrier, Brittany Hohn and Rotilio placed third with a time of 3:46.53, while Rotilio also took second in the 200-meter event (24.66).
Acker hit a mark of 3.86-meters in the pole vault to earn sixth-place. Acker’s performance is the second-best in school history, behind Erin Nett (4.07-meters) who set the bar in 2001. The mark was a personal-best, improving on the previous record she set of 3.82-meters on January 24, at the State Farm Games.
Karly Hamric placed second in the 800-meter run (2:12.93), a BIG EAST qualifying mark and a personal-best, while Kaylyn Christopher placed third in the 1000-meter (2:48.99).
Next up, the Mountaineers will return to State College, Pa., to compete in the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup on February 6-7.
