Swimming: West Virginia Hosts Maryland

West Virginia (men 3-9, women 3-10) was last in action this past weekend when it took part in the Shamrock Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind. After the two days were complete, West Virginia saw themselves defeated by Denver, Michigan State and Notre Dame on both the men’s and the women’s side.
Maryland (men 5-5, women 9-3) comes into the meet with the men last in action on Jan. 17, when it hosted Pitt and Penn State. The men defeated Pitt, while falling to Penn State. The women were in action last weekend hosting Richmond and Miami and sweeping the meet.
This will be the last time eight Mountaineers swim in their home pool as it will be Senior Day for West Virginia. For the men, Payton Brooks, Nathan Farmer, Pablo Marmolejo and Michael Walker will all be honored and on the women’s side, Lindsey Largo, Natalie Lautzenheiser, Maritza Paredes and Isabel Perez will also be honored.
Marmolejo currently holds the pool record in the 200 fly (1:47.81) set in 2006 while Walker holds pool records in the 200 back (1:50.25) set in 2006 and 400 IM (3:57.05) set in 2008. On the women’s side Largo holds the pool record for the 1650 free (17:00.73) set in 2008.
The event is free of admission and fans are encouraged to stop by the WVU Natatorium to honor this season’s seniors.
