Track: WVU Set To Host State Farm Games

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team is set to host the annual State Farm Games at the WVU Shell Building on Saturday, Jan. 24, beginning at 9 a.m.
“We are excited with the size of this meet and it will provide a great atmosphere for everyone participating,” comments Coach Sean Cleary. “As a team we are looking to take another step forward in the early stages of this indoor season.”
Along with rival Pitt, WVU will compete against Allegheny College, Bethany College (W.Va.), Duquesne, Frostburg State, Hagerstown CC, Indiana (Pa.), Juniata College, Seton Hill and Slippery Rock. Pitt won the BIG EAST Indoor Championships last season and are strong in the 800-meter and 500-meter dash, as well as the high jump.
“I’m so excited that Pitt is coming to compete,” adds junior sprinter April Rotilio. “Most of the time when we have meets here it’s a lot of DII and DIII schools. I’m so pumped for this meet because Pitt really has some great competition.”
Last season’s meet was highlighted by Rotilio who took first place in both the 60-meter dash (7.66) and the 200-meter dash (25.03), while teammates Keri Bland (5:03.44) and Maria Dalzot (5:14.40) took first and second in the one mile run, respectively . WVU also took first place in the 500-meter, 3000-meter when Karly Hamric took the 500-meter dash at 1:17.43 and teammate Clara Grandt took the 3000-meter run at 9:48.63. Natasha Redman recorded a first place finish in the high jump (1.67-meters), while Kristen Loughry took the pole vault event at 3.73-meters.
