MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore Amy Bieski earned her first EAGL Specialist of the Week honor, as announced today by the conference.
The Nanticoke, Pa., native paced the No. 21 Mountaineers (1-3) in their third-place finish (193.700 points) at Michigan State on Jan. 17. Iowa took first with 194.350 points, while the host Spartans finished second with 194.200 points. Illinois State finished last with 190.700 points.
Bieski scored 9.750 or better on three events, including a 9.850 first-place performance on the floor, her first individual win of the season. She also finished second on the squad, third overall, on the uneven bars (9.800) and second on the team, eighth overall, on the vault (9.750).
Currently, Bieski ranks No. 25 nationally on the floor (9.837 average). The ranking jumps to No. 4 in the Southeast Region, and No. 1 in the EAGL.
This is the seventh conference honor for Bieski, as she earned EAGL Rookie of the Week honors five times last season, and EAGL Gymnast of the Week honors once.
Bieski’s award is the second of the season for the Mountaineers. Senior Mehgan Morris was named the first EAGL Gymnast of the Week of the year on Jan. 13.
Bieski, Morris and the rest of the Mountaineers open both their home and conference seasons on Jan. 23 as they welcome Pitt to the WVU Coliseum at 8 p.m.
