Gymnastics: WVU Earns Program-Best GPA

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 18 West Virginia University gymnastics team finished the fall semester with a program-best 3.5031 cumulative grade point average.
The Mountaineers have a history of academic success, as five former gymnasts were named ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-Americans and 62 earned NACGC/W Scholastic All-America Honors.
Four current team members have received NACGC/W honors, including 2008 honorees Heather Izer, Kiersten Spoerke, Shelly Purkat and Stephanie Keaton.
WVU (0-1) opened the 2009 season dropping a close 195.425-194.075 decision at perennial power and then-No. 1 Georgia on Jan. 9. The Mountaineers continue their opening season road trip on Saturday, Jan. 17, at Michigan State with Iowa and Illinois State, at 7:30 p.m. The tape-delayed meet will air on the Big Ten Network on Jan. 22 at 10 p.m.
