MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University cross country runners Marie-Louise Asselin, Ahna Lewis and Kaylyn Christopher all broke the course record in the intrasquad Gold-Blue Race held today at the WVU Agronomy Farm.
“This was an excellent showing,” comments Head Coach Sean Cleary. “The Gold-Blue Race was a glorified training day where we had atmosphere and a lot of team spirit in a low key environment. The team looks fit and in good shape.”
Asselin’s time of 14:24, broke the previous course record of 15:19, set by Christopher and Kate Harrison in 2007. Lewis, a Morgantown, W.Va native, finished in 15:07, while Christopher beat her personal and course best time of 15:19, crossing the finish line at 15:17.
The Mountaineers return to action on Sept. 13, traveling to Princeton, N.J. to take place in the Princeton Invitational. The race is set to begin at 10 a.m.
